News from the Board
Waɲuŋar ‘Greetings’,
The Board recognises that 2021 will be our year for reformational change. We are refining what we do well through the ascertainment of our strengths and through this process we hope to identify the most effective way to continue building capacity within our collective communities and to promote the value we create as an organisation in a concisely defined manner.
Strategic Plan 2021-26
We are proud to announce that we will soon be releasing our brand-new strategic plan. Across the months of April and May, the Board and the organisation have been collaborating to develop strategy for our foreseeable future and I believe the organisation’s strategic readiness has been timely. I would like to thank our Program Director and the Board for their commitment to this process, for ensuring the strategy was Indigenous-led and positioning Indigenous methodology at the forefront of their considerations. I would also like to extend our gratitude to Business Mapping Solutions in Cairns, QLD on Yirrganydji country for their support with the strategic planning, in particular, Margot Richardson GAICD.
We aim to rekindle our existing programs, their effectiveness and our various communities’ authentic connection with the value that we create. The Strategy is currently being developed and is still going through a review process, however the Board hopes to approve the strategy and publish it shortly after the new financial year. Governance Training
The Board wanted to take the time to revisit and refresh their governance skills and understanding with specific attention to the legal environment and NFP community organisations. Again, it was overwhelming to experience the Board’s commitment to life-long learning and continual refinement. It reassures me that we have a Board of critical thinkers who exercise good judgement practices across a range of different governance areas in the best interests of Living Languages and the communities we serve.
I would like to thank Justice Connect in Melbourne, Vic on Woiwurrung and Boonwurrung Country for leading the Board through this course and in particular, Mae Tanner.
