Meet our intern: Sarah Sandy
Mununjali and Butchulla Young Champion Sarah Sandy provided valuable support as an intern at our QLD Youth Professional Development Workshop. Here, she shares a bit about herself.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a proud Mununjali, Butchulla woman who loves my culture, my elders and my language. I enjoy learning and being to grow as a person.
What interests you about language work / why do you think it’s important?
Learning about language is both rewarding and important to keep our culture and language alive.
Why did you apply to be an intern at the PD workshop in Cairns?
I applied because it was a great opportunity to learn and be connected to other young people walking a similar path to me and the willingness to learn as well.
How did you find interning at the workshop?
I enjoyed the workshop very much, it was so enlightening and fun, every person who I met in the workshop was very nice and welcoming.
Do you have any highlights from the workshop?
My highlight from the workshop would be connecting with other mob and learning about their journeys.
What are your hopes and aspirations for your language?
I would love to see language work to grow and eventually to be taught around schools in Australia.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I recommend to people who want to try this workshop to give it a go, I had a great experience and learned so much.
(Thanks Sarah!)
