New Program Director Nina Brown
We certainly don’t need to remind you that 2020 has been a year of major upheaval for almost everybody – including us. But today we’re actually excited to announce a big new change at Living Languages. As you have probably heard, after three fantastic years our previous Training Director Emma Murphy has left us for the sunnier skies of Darwin. We are delighted now to welcome her successor in the new role of Program Director, Nina Brown.
For fifteen years Nina has lived and worked with Aboriginal communities and organisations across Australia. Most recently, as CEO of Warmun Community in the East Kimberley, Nina worked with the Gija council to strengthen governance and deliver programs to the local community such as aged care, early learning, youth, and municipal services.
Nina has extensive experience working with communities to develop their own strategies to achieve social and economic outcomes. Projects include a renewable energy program for remote homelands, land management work in the West Arnhem Stone Country and fixing houses with Yolŋu in East Arnhem Land. Nina also collaborated with Antakirinya/Yankunytjatjara Senior Women in their five-year campaign opposing a proposed nuclear waste dump for SA.
Nina says, “I'm thrilled to be working with Living Languages. It is such an important and specialised area of work and I have so much to learn. Given the team are Victorian-based and dealing with the immense challenges thrown up by COVID-19 lockdown and travel restrictions I hope to provide calm and consistent leadership in these uncertain times.”
Welcome Nina!
