Language Digital Activism Toolkit Workshops

Over the first two weeks of December, Ebony and Language Leadership participant Lakota Milera-Weetra co-facilitated an online workshop series on unpacking the Language Digital Activism Toolkit, on behalf of Rising Voices.

The Language Digital Activism Toolkit is made up of different strategies that could be used to help promote, advocate for, revitalise or teach Indigenous languages in the online space. Rising Voices in partnership with UNESCO have been working to put together this Toolkit to help Indigenous peoples around the world that want to use online platforms to help their language work. Rising Voices partnered up with First Languages Australia to be able to hold these workshops for the Oceania region.

Ebony and Lakota worked with a group of around 18 people from around Australia and New Zealand, including Norfolk Island. As a group they went through the strategies that were in the Toolkit, identified which tactic/s would best suit the work they are doing or aspire to do. There was networking and connections made through the four sessions done together, as well as a lot of sharing of ideas and resources among the group.

This series was a great opportunity for Ebony and Lakota to work and learn together. Thanks to the group that joined them, and to Eddie and Annalee for the opportunity to be a part of the project.
