Croker Island Workshop Oct 2019
At the end of October, Living Languages had our second workshop at Minjilang, helping out with the Minjilang Language and Culture project. Emma had already visited once earlier in the year, and was happy to return and introduce Ebony to the team revitalising the Iwaidja Language, supported by ARDS Aboriginal Corporation.
During our workshop, we worked with two language teachers from Mamaruni School to document some words and sentences about body parts. We planned out some posters about body parts for use in the local clinic, and also brainstormed some different activities and games the teachers could use for helping the kids learn these words too.
The week ended with a whole-school language class: it was great to see the ideas and planning put into practice on our last day, before saying goodbye (hopefully not for the last time!) and rushing to the plane.
